If you’re like me, you’re probably reading this review after you’ve started to have problems. And if you’re like me, you might not have thought too much about your A/C beyond changing the air filters every couple of months… Hamstra was recommended by a friend of a friend that I trust, but I still felt like I do when I take my car to one of those drive-in oil change places and they “highly-recommend” a cabin air filter change with a 1000% mark-up, even though it was changed the week before. Basically, it’s very hard to be a single woman with very little mechanical/technical knowledge. I try to do my research, ask people, read reviews–but I’ve never been so impressed that I felt compelled to write a review. I don’t yet know the outcome of my situation since my A/C is 15 years old (I didn’t know that and I’ve lived here 5 of those years!). But I did want to write to let other people know that there are some decent, honest and knowledgeable professionals out there. Dave Thompson was the Service Tech who came out to check my A/C problem and I have to tell you that he is an outstanding professional who took the time to explain the basics of the problem, the possible solutions and options for repair/replacement. I really hope it doesn’t come to replacement, but I’ll know more in the next couple of days and frankly, I wouldn’t be surprised if it did. Dave had taken a picture of my unit’s wiring and it was a mess. Regardless of the final outcome, I felt that Dave was truly one of the most professional, sincere, direct and trustworthy service techs in any field that I’ve encountered. I don’t know about the other service techs, but if you need someone to come diagnose and/or treat your unit, call Hamstra and ask for Dave Thompson. On second thought, call BEFORE you have problems. Believe it or not, my biggest regret is not knowing that HVAC units need to be maintained/inspected every year. 5 years ago, I had a husband who did those things. Judging from Dave, I think this is a solid company that treats both its employees and its customers right. We all know how rare that is these days.
