Smart thermostats save time, and money!
By year end 2018, an estimated 17 million homes in the United States had at least one smart thermostat on the wall. But what’s the big deal? How smart could a thermostat really be? The answer might surprise you. While the smart thermostat movement may have been originally limited to mostly techies and neighbors trying to keep up with the Joneses, adding a smart control to your home comfort system could save you big – from an energy-savings and convenience standpoint.
According to EnergyStar, homes with smart thermostats can save up to $180 a year on heating and cooling utility costs. Premium smart thermostats like the Nest Learning Thermostat feature fully customizable, schedule-based programming or even automatic learning that can help adapt to your comfort desires and make setting up energy-efficient operation a breeze. Aside from accommodating comfort adjustments on the fly from your phone or other mobile device – wherever you are, the Nest can even detect inactivity in your home and adjust the temperature accordingly. It’s that smart.
Mobile access allows you to view the temperature in your home at any time, and safety temperatures can maintain both minimum and maximum comfort conditions in your home for pets or plants, even if someone accidentally turns your heating or cooling off. When you’re sitting on a plane headed to the islands for the summer and remember you left your cooling set for 68 degrees, no problem! Simply adjust the temperature setting from your mobile device and avoid the astronomical electric bill when you return. Now that’s smart.
Each smart thermostat comes equipped with various features and benefits, but they all have one thing in common – they are smart enough to compensate for your energy’s biggest, most costly enemy… yourself!

Hamstra in the Community
Every December through a partnership with ParentAid, our Hamstra Helping Hands group adopts a couple of families in need. HHH gathers elves from the team to shop for necessities, gift cards, and wish list items, to give these families a Christmas they will never forget. After the shopping is complete, the team celebrates with a wrapping party to prepare the gifts for delivery. The team then loads the gifts into the Hamstra sleigh and they join Santa in making a personal delivery, spreading joy to everyone involved.
